about
Collective Futures
is a six-week, citywide project activating Philadelphia’s network of artist-run spaces, DIY venues, and community-based initiatives. This collaboratively organized project bringing together more than 30 independent spaces and organizations, Collective Futures will unfold across the city through exhibitions, performances, workshops, and public programs from Kensington and North Chinatown to West Philadelphia, Fishtown, and Old City, between October 2 and November 15, 2026.

At its core, Collective Futures centers collective practice as a vital mode of cultural production. Across disciplines and contexts, the project highlights how artists come together to build shared platforms, experiment with new forms, and sustain creative communities.

Taking place during the 250th anniversary of the so-called United States, while many institutions in Philadelphia conjure programming around the complex histories of nation-building and democracy, Collective Futures highlights the artistic experimentation and alternative models that grassroots cultural spaces have long been building

Collective Futures is grounded in the specific conditions of Philadelphia, where a rich ecosystem of artist-run and DIY spaces has made collaborative cultural production possible. As rising costs and development reshape the city, the project affirms the importance of collective cultural life and the infrastructures that sustain it, so that our work can mobilize resources, deepen connections, and envision transformative futures.

Clement DaVinci – Chasing the Solstice

Chasing the Solstice is a celebration of the ever-changing rhythm of nature and the quiet beauty found in the passing of time. Through watercolor, I explore the four seasons not simply as a sequence of weather and color, but as four distinct moods—each with its own atmosphere, energy, and sense of place.

The title Chasing the Solstice reflects my fascination with the movement of light throughout the year. Each painting is an attempt to hold onto a particular moment—the golden light filtering through trees, the reflection of a winter sky in still water, the brilliant colors of autumn, or the fresh awakening of spring. These moments are temporary, yet watercolor gives me a way to preserve their feeling and memory.

My work is rooted in observation and a love of landscape, but I am equally interested in the emotional experience of a place. I want these paintings to invite the viewer to pause, look closely, and perhaps recall a season, landscape, or moment of their own.

With Chasing the Solstice, I invite you to journey through the year with me—to follow the changing light, color, and atmosphere of the seasons and discover the beauty that exists in each transition.

How Things Look

A fascination with how things look has compelled me to draw and paint since early childhood. I’ve always painted from life using transparent watercolor with an emphasis on shape, color and how light falls on objects. This interest led me to an education in design and a career as a product designer.

I had done silkscreen printing on fabric in the past, but started printing on paper a few years ago, applying the same principles of layered transparent color that I do in painting.

About 3rd Street Gallery

Since its inception in 1978, 3rd Street Gallery has been an artist-run cooperative in
Philadelphia. The gallery brings together past and new generations of independent artists, who actively create new work for the gallery’s exhibitions. Splitting their time between their studios and the gallery, our member artists volunteer their efforts on the day-to-day business and logistical operations of the gallery that enables our cooperative to adapt to the ever-changing world of art.

3rd Street Gallery actively seeks to foster new and unique relationships between its artists and the public. It achieves this through participating in Philadelphia Open Studios Tour, South Street Fourth Fridays, and by annually hosting open-invitations through its varied community-based exhibitions.

The foremost commitment of 3rd Street Gallery is to extend an awareness of and appreciation for fine art by engaging the public with insightful and challenging creative works, offered up in various medium, genres and styles. At 3rd Street Gallery, we continue to strive for quality and diversity in our artistic endeavors that not only allows for innovation, experimentation and risk, but also maintains the added responsibility of promoting the visual arts in the Philadelphia region.
