Coming this fall, Icebox Project Space will launch VCR (Video Collection & Resource), a lending library and archive of films, videos, and cultural histories. .
The collection includes experimental film, video art, Black independent cinema, queer media, performance documentation, Philadelphia history, community archives, and rare artist-produced VHS and DVD releases. From underground cinema and local histories to forgotten tapes and hard-to-find media, VCR preserves the moving-image underground and makes it available to the public.
Members will be able to check out films and media players, explore the archive, or watch titles on-site in a dedicated viewing space.
About Icebox Project Space
Icebox Project Space is an innovative and experimental contemporary arts platform where visual artists, musicians, film makers, and performers are able to work, think, and collaborate within a uniquely large scale and open structure.
Our mission is to facilitate projects that are a betterment of the community and to push for social change. We look to artworks, performances, videos, movement, and sound that have a sense of urgency and relevance in and around Philadelphia. We work with artists that are pushing against something, whether it is oppressive institutions, construction of identity, or even the creative process itself.
